Wax Melt & Burner Safety
Please Read Before Use
At Linky’s, your safety is incredibly important to us. Wax melts and burners involve heat, hot wax and, when using a tealight burner, a naked flame.
Please read the following safety information carefully before using your wax melts or burners. Always keep products away from children and pets.
Wax Burners & Oil Burners Are NOT the Same
Please take extra care when choosing a burner for your wax melts.
Oil burners and wax melt burners are completely different products and are designed for different purposes.
Oil burners are NOT considered safe for use with wax melts and should never be used to melt wax.
Wax melts should only be used in a suitable, purpose-made wax melt burner that has been designed for use with wax.
Using wax in an oil burner may cause the burner to become excessively hot, crack or break, and could create a safety or fire hazard.
Never assume that an oil burner is suitable for wax melts simply because it has a dish and a tealight underneath.
If you are unsure whether your burner is suitable for wax melts, please do not use it. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before use.
Tealight Safety — IMPORTANT
We only recommend using unscented 4-hour tealights in our tealight wax burners.
Please never use 8-hour tealights in any wax burner. They are not considered safe for use in burners and present a fire risk.
Long-burning tealights can generate heat for considerably longer and may cause a burner to become excessively hot. This can increase the risk of the burner overheating, cracking or breaking and creating a fire hazard.
Always use an unscented 4-hour tealight and only one tealight at a time.
• Place the tealight centrally inside the burner.
• Never leave a lit tealight unattended.
• Never move a burner while the tealight is lit or while the wax is hot.
• Keep the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.
• Keep the burner away from curtains, furniture and other flammable materials.
• Keep away from children and pets.
• Allow the burner and wax to cool completely before touching or moving it.
• Never use a tealight that is damaged or has a damaged casing.
If you cannot use a suitable 4-hour unscented tealight, please do not use the burner.
Wax Melt Safety
• Always use wax melts in a suitable, purpose-made wax melt burner.
• Never leave a burning or heated wax melt unattended.
• Keep your wax melt burner on a stable, heat-resistant and level surface.
• Keep away from children, pets, curtains, furniture and anything that could catch fire.
• Never move a burner while the wax is hot or liquid.
• Do not overfill your burner.
• Never add water to wax or attempt to mix wax with other substances.
• Never use a sharp object to remove wax from your burner, as this could damage the burner.
• Check your burner regularly for cracks, chips or damage. Do not use a damaged burner.
• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your particular burner.
Removing & Changing Your Wax
We do not recommend placing your burner in the freezer to remove wax.
Rapid changes in temperature can cause some burners, particularly ceramic or glass burners, to crack or break.
Instead, we recommend the following method:
- Gently heat the burner for no more than 30 seconds. This is enough to slightly loosen the wax from the dish. Do not leave the burner unattended while heating.
- Switch off the burner and allow the wax to loosen slightly.
- Using a cotton pad, gently wipe the softened wax from the burner.
- Dispose of the used cotton pad and wax in your general household waste.
- Allow the burner to cool completely before adding a new wax melt.
Never use your fingers, knives or sharp objects to remove wax.
Never pour wax down a sink, toilet or drain, as it can harden and cause blockages.
Electric Burner Safety
If using an electric wax melt burner:
• Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Check the cable, plug and burner for signs of damage before use.
• Do not use an electric burner if the cable, plug or appliance is damaged.
• Keep electrical components away from water and other liquids.
• Do not cover the burner while it is switched on.
• Place the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface with plenty of space around it.
• Switch off and unplug the burner when it is not in use.
• Never leave an electric burner switched on unattended.
Important Wax Safety
Hot wax can cause burns.
Never touch or attempt to remove liquid wax while it is hot.
If hot wax comes into contact with your skin, cool the affected area with cool running water and seek appropriate medical advice if necessary.
Never pour hot wax down your sink or toilet. Wax can harden inside pipes and cause blockages.
Keep Away From Children & Pets
Wax melts, burners and tealights are not toys.
Keep all products, packaging and unused wax melts safely out of reach of children and pets.
Never allow children or pets to operate or play with a burner.
